Oslo Airport is being rebuilt, this time to divert traffic from outside the Schengen area and accommodate a new lounge after passport control.

The price is set at NOK 3.3 billion for the construction project, which was approved at a board meeting on Thursday.

CEO, Dag Falk-Petersen of Avinor, said to Aftenposten newspaper that traffic to and from outside Schengen in recent years has grown the most. Enlargement will increase the capacity of passengers travelling outside Schengen from today’s 5.5 million to 8 million a year.

The extension will be eastwards, on the right after passing the security check and
passport control.Passengers with access to the lounge at the airport will thus avoid having to use time on passport control on the way from the lounge to the street.

The work will start in October and will be completed before the summer of 2022.
