Bergen Airport announced Friday the expansion of Wizz Air’s operations, adding a new seasonal link to Budapest from Norway’s south-west coastal city. Set to commence from 10 April 2017, the twice-weekly link will bring up to 26,000 additional seats from Bergen during the summer season.

“Wizz Air’s announcement is a great addition to Bergen’s network and a reflection of the confidence everyone has for continued growth at the airport. Everyone on the team worked hard to secure this link and to see this come to fruition is a proud moment for us all,” commented VP Traffic Development at Avinor, Jasper Spruit.

Adding its seventh route from Bergen, the new service will be the ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) seventeenth in total from Avinor’s 46 airports. Facing no competition on the new airport pair, Hungary will become the ULCC’s fourth country market served from Bergen, joining existing services to Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

Wizz Air’s first direct flight to Hungary from Norway will become Avinor’s second service to Budapest, joining Norwegian’s double-daily flight from Oslo to the Hungarian capital city airport.
