Oslo Municipality is in the process of finding a suitable location to place the self illuminating tree, the investor, Stein Erik Hagen has bought.

Hagen purchased the art at the Burning Man Festival in the United States last autumn. He wanted to give the tree to Oslo as a gift. Now, however, Hagen says to Dagens Næringsliv that he will loan the tree to the city for three to five years and then consider an extension or giving it as a gift on a permanent basis.

However, Hagen has promised to cover the costs of installation, power and insurance.

The tree is 14 meters tall and has luminous leaves with varying colors and patterns. The artist Alexander Green created it. He is in the process of constructing a smaller edition to be tested for wind and weather.

The City has made a list of six possible locations for the tree: Vippetangen, Kontraskjæret, Langkaia, Sofienbergparken, Myraløkka and Cuba.

“We are at the beginning stages so I can not give any details. But the tree is an exciting art installation, which is fun to work with,” says sculptor conservator Ingrid Skard Skomedal in the culture district in Oslo municipality.
