41 percent of the population believe that they get little in return for the NRK news  license, according to a new survey.

The survey is done by Ipsos for newspaper Dagbladet and 930 participants have been asked the question “do you think that you are getting a lot, enough or little for the licensing money you / your household pay to NRK?”.

40 percent responded that they get enough for the license, while 16 percent think they are getting a lot. 3 percent responded “do not know” or that they do not pay the license.
Broadcasting Chief Thor Gjermund Eriksen is not worried about NRK’s position.

– I would like to see that the proportion who believe they are getting good value is higher, but that 56 percent believe they get enough or a lot value is not bad. People have very high expectations for NRK, so “enough” is also a good answer, he says.

Nobody should be forced to pay a TV licence. Those who believe that it is good value for money should pay voluntary subscriptions and the rest should not have to pay.
Forcing people to pay for TV is a very outdated and primitive way of funding TV.

Competition improves quality. That is all there is to it; you can’t deny that simple fact. As long as NRK has little or no competition, why would they improve?
