Foreigners need more information about cultural heritage, said by director of the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research.

Last week, several thousand year old petroglyphs on island of Tro in Alstahaug at Nordland has been etched in (scratched) and destroyed by two youths. The two, who are teenagers, have stated that they just wanted to make the skier, curved on the petroglyphs, more visible, reported by NRK.

– Municipalities should work more actively for public education and the government should do more research on why monuments are broken, said by institute director Carsten Paludan-Müller.

The government has set a target to reduce annual losses of protected cultural heritage sharply by 2020. They want that the loss does not exceed 0.5 percent annually.
