In the new “Mission Impossible” movie that premieres in August,Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock ) is situated in India. It is still good Norway advertising believes the tourism industry.
The big movie with Tom Cruise in the lead role gained a lot of attention throughout Norway when the final stages were recorded at the Preikestolen in Lysefjorden last autumn.
The four dramatic minutes where the superstar hangs from the edge of the iconic tourist attraction was seen as a giant victory for Norwegian tourism.
For many,it was therefore a disappointment to see that director Christopher McQuarrie has placed Preikestolen in Kashmir, India.
To Dagbladet newspaper, who first mentioned the matter, tourism director Elisabeth Saupstad for the region of Stavanger in ‘Visit Norway’ said that the audience will quickly find out where the scenes actually played. She didn’t specify exactly how notoriously ill informed modern young audiences would do that,however.
“Preikestolen is almost as iconic as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, so I think that will not be a problem.”
Neither does CEO, Hege Kjellevold, of the foundation of the Preikestolen, believe there is any major problem that the action has been taken to India.
‘’We were prepared for this.That is how it takes place in the big international films.
It’s unlikely that such a story would have happened here,” she told Dagbladet. No
Norwegian can pinpoint a movie, however, in which the Eiffel Tower is situated in
Kashmir, India, or the Statue of Liberty is situated anywhere other than New York.
The American film production received six million kroner via the incentive scheme for the Norwegian Film Institute.The scheme is intended to promote Norwegian culture, history and nature, albeit, clearly, though it is situated in India.
