164 students on the waiting list for the social work program at Sogn og Fjordane University College, received an offer of admission because of a typing error. Thus they lost it again.

Monday the students got a contra message from NUCAS that the offer of admission was withdrawn, newspaper VG reports. It affected a number of students.

– Everything was turned upside down on Saturday. Considering the notice, I resigned Sunday since Monday was August 1, tells Eli-Therese Lund (30) from Bergen, who works as a student advisor and career counselor. She had also acquired an apartment she was renting with two others in Sogndal.

Now she is considering to complain about the admission being withdrawn.

Acting principal Anne-Grethe Naustdal at Sogn og Fjordane University College understands the disappointment of several of the students, but says that the school does not have the finances to set up an extra class.

– We did not know that a typing mistake caused the entire waiting list to be offered admission. It is disturbing and quite incredible that it is possible, she says.

NUCAS says the error that was made on the school’s admission office, should have been notified to them even if it was corrected immediately.

The flaw was discovered by a student.
