The Russ in Stavanger are to receive a free vaccine against meningitis after a proposal from the Arbeiderpartiet (AP) was unanimously adopted
by the chairmanship.

‘’Brain inflammation is unfortunately common among Russ. By vaccinating before the Russ celebration, one is safer’’ Kari Nessa Nordtun (AP) told the chairmanship on Thursday evening.

Stavanger Aftenblad newspaper wrote that the proposal, with some adjustments from Mayor Christine Sagen Helgø of Høyre (H), was unanimously adopted.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health recommends adolescents aged between 16 and 19 to vaccinate against infectious meningitis.

The vaccine is not part of the ordinary childhood vaccination program that is covered by the state. In Stavanger, the vaccine normally costs NOK 490, and the students have to book themselves.
