The Government will make it easier to get a job with Ph.d.

The Government will make it easier for research scholars and fellows to get a job after completing their doctorate.
Today the doctoral education at universities and colleges is considered to be a period of service under the Civil Service Act. This means that temporary employees with more than four years of service  get strong employment protection and rights in connection with permanent positions.
– This means that universities and colleges have to let promising candidates go , unless they can offer them a permanent appointment. Many who have graduated with a doctorate find being hired on a short-term contract right after they have graduated to be attractive. Today’s rules are an obstacle to this,  Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H) says.
Because of this the Government  proposes to not count the doctoral education as a period of service. They hope that this change will provide increased flexibility for institutions and candidates.
