Grades important for employers

The importance of good grades has increased in the workplace, according to a survey among graduates master students.

It is the first time in ten years that the candidate survey from NIFU – Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education – was carried out while unemployment rises, writes digi.no.
– We expected that when there was greater competition for jobs and employers got more to choose from, more factors become more important than before. But compared with the previous survey, good grades have a greater importance, says NIFU researcher Liv Anne Støren to newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.

CEO Brynjulf Kjosås in staffing agency for IT Search has confirmed this. His agency checks the grades more closely than before.

– We see constantly that candidates who apparently qualify, but who do not have good grades, be bypassed, says Kjosås. He recommends not to prioritize work over exams.

– The grades are staying for the rest of your life and say a lot about the personality of the people. If you have less than two years of relevant experience it is simply very important, he says. Kjosås said this mean everything from C and down should be avoided.
