Powerful curriculum cuts in all school subjects are needed to end the current superficial learning and improve the knowledge and understanding of the students, Minister  of Education Torbjørn Røe Isaksen says .

Isaksen has given notice that he will have made a full review and revision of all of the current subjects at school, when he will put forward a new parliamentary report on the contents of the school on Wednesday.
The most important measure is sharp cuts in the number of topics and learning objectives in the various subjects, in line with the recommendation from the Ludvigsen Committee, which has established that Norwegian schools are characterized by being crowded by topics and superficial learning.
– Today there are so many different things students have to learn in each subject that teachers need to rush through the syllabus without the students really aquiring a solid knowledge or understanding in the topics they are taught, Isaksen says.
The minister is prepared for quarrels and arguments when  the tug of war about which of the parts of the curriculum that have to be removed starts.
– There’s probably going to be some controversies, because although everyone agrees that parts of the curriculum have to be removed, not everyone agrees on what needs to be removed.
