90 percent of those who applied for a spot in the first year of videregående skole( similar to junior college or the sixth forms of comprehensive school) from the fall, have received an offer, according to recent figures from the Directorate of Education.
There have been a total of 77,703 applicants for a place at school in Vg1 the upcoming school year. Of these, 71,594 received an offer shows Directorate of Education figures.
Compared with previous years, there has been a sharp increase in the number of applicants for the health and youth program at the schools. About 10,000 have applied for this education program and this amounts to over 1,100 more applicants than last year, and over 600 more than the same period in 2015 has so far have had their wish come true.
Admission figures for videregående education show that there were a total of 210,651 applicants for the school year 2016-2017. About 191,000 of those applied for a spot at one of the schools, while just under 20,000 have applied for an apprenticeship.
11,000 applicants are still on the waiting list, and about half of them are youngsters who are entitled to – due to the so-called youth right- to get a space in one of the videregående schools in Norway .
– We can reassure youth that are still on the waiting list, that this will be fixed before the start of the school year. Every year the counties provide ensure that everyone who are entitled to a place at school, will get a place at one of the schools during the summer, Director of Education, Hege Nilssen, says.
