The need for more skilled workers in Norway is growing, but many of the current certificates are not given priority in the workplace. Because of this, two expert committees  recommend major changes to the vocational courses  in videregående ( upper high school) and closing down some of them.

In addition to major changes in the subjects, we need an awareness campaign to ensure that more will choose vocational courses. The courses  we took a closer look at were in a major crisis, Nina Sundquist, CEO of Matmerk, told NRK.
She has led one of five expert committees. NRK has gained access to two of the reports, which both recommend changes and closures.
The reports were submitted to the Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H) on Tuesday.
– Many of the workplace that says there is a mismatch on a number of subjects. There is little demand for skilled workers; and you are unsure if taking a craft certificate will give you the skills that are in demand,  the Minister says.
Meanwhile, figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) indicates needs 90,000 more skilled workers will be needed in ten years.
