Two Iranian PhD students who sued the state after being thrown out of Norway, have got new residence permits and may return to the University of Trondheim.

The two were, along with several other Iranian students and scholars refused residence in 2014. Police Security Service (PST) feared that their stay in Trondheim would give the Iranians knowledge that could be used for manufacturing nuclear weapons in their homeland. Now PST has changed its assessment and approved their new applications,  the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv writes.
– I’m glad PST changed their incorrect decision. I’m proud of all of us, who fought for our rights, instead of remaining silent,  Hamideh Kaffash writes in an email to the newspaper. She wants to return to NTNU and praises the efforts of the university .
– NTNU has been a great support to us all the way, she writes.
The university says there were signs from the government that the PST were of a different opinion now than they were two years ago, partly because Iran had agreed to a nuclear deal.
– The rules and the sanctions against Iran have changed since the last evaluation. Because of this, we have come to a new conclusion, says senior advisor Siv Alsén in PST.
