Nearly 20 percent more students are applying for nursing education, according to new figures from the Universities and Colleges Admission (Samordnaopptak).

Meanwhile, the number of applicants to NTNU studies in petroleum dropped dramatically. Now, almost all applicants are accepted.
The poor state of the oil industry is reflected in the number of applicants. According to Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim there are 31 applicants for the 39 places in petroleum. This is down from 420 applicants for 53 seats, in turn half of the year before.
NTNU has aslo seen a 30 percent increase in applications for communications technology and nanotechnology.
