19 kilos of cheese per Norwegian

On average, every Norwegian ate 19 kilos of cheese in 2018. 12 of those kilos were of their traditional ‘yellow’ cheese.

Of the 19 kilos of cheese we consumed, three of them were imported cheese, writes Nationen, which has received the figures from the Information Office for Dairy Products.

Norwegians ate 1.2 percent more cheese last year than the year before. The total consumption of cheese was 100,493 tonnes. The numbers include cheese for consumers, catering and restaurants and industry are included.

Consumption of Norwegian-produced cheese increased by 0.1 per cent, while consumption of imported cheese increased by 7.4 per cent. The import share of cheese was 15.4 percent in 2018, which is a record high, the newspaper writes.
