In Europe, 33,000 people die annually as a result of antibiotic resistance, shows a wide-ranging study. In Norway, about 70 people die for the same reason.
There are 672,000 infections that are resistant to antibiotic treatment in Europe every year, reports the European Infectious Disease Institute (ECDC) via the National Institute of Public Health.
In the same survey, it appears that 1,900 people in Norway catch an infection of bacteria resistant to antibiotics annually. Of these, about 70 people die.
The study is based on surveillance data from 2015 from 30 countries in the EU and the EEA. The researchers have looked at 16 different combinations of bacteria and antibiotic resistance.
