The updated rules mean that families with sick children can have assistance for up to one week consecutively.

Labor and Social Minister Anniken Hauglie (H) and her ministry have long been working on changing the regulations that regulate working hours for assistants.

“I am very happy that I can change the rules, so that the regulations from now on allow for holiday relief for families with sick children. This means that more families will have the opportunity to go on holiday,” says Hauglie to NTB.

The regulations on working hours for assistance were laid down in 2017. It was then opened for assisting on weekdays and weekends, but a maximum of 48 hours consecutively.

“This means that many families with sick children have not had the opportunity to go on holiday,” says Hauglie.

The Ministry is now opening for assistance for up to one week at a time if the relief is not very stressful. In addition, the employer must ensure that the employee gets enough rest during this time.

According to Hauglie, it has been important to get the change in place before the summer holidays so that affected families can benefit from the change of rules already this summer.
