The Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation received 1,566 applications for compensation in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 1.5 percent from last year. Payouts increased by 2 percent.
NPE dealt with 19 percent more cases in the first quarter this year than in the same period last year.
We have invested heavily in streamlining our case processing, and these figures show that we are well on our way to our goal of processing more cases faster, ”says director Rolf Gunnar Jørstad.
He expects that there will be a record number of applications during the year and has set a forecast of 6,200 cases during 2019. In that case, it will be the highest number of cases in one year.
In 2018, NPE paid out NOK 238 million in claims in the first quarter, while this year NOK 243 million was paid out. This is an increase of 2 percent.
“The increase in payments is primarily due to the fact that we have completed several cases. We are committed to making as fast a payment as possible, because we know that this is important for our users,” says Jørstad.
