On Tuesday the two-week skipping rope competition ‘Hope for the Heart’ started. School pupils from year four to year seven will participate, and NOK 10,000 is at stake.

Students from, among others, Korsvoll and Tøyen School were gathered on Thursday in Spikersuppa in Oslo, ready to kick off with the skipping ropes gripped in their hands.

Secretary-General Mina Gerhardsen of the National Association of Public Health, and Storting Representative Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde (H) were also present and skipped eagerly together with the children.

Students all over the country will participate in the competition and receive points for the number of skipping minutes.

The competition is organized by the National Society for Public Health each spring. They hope to inspire children to be more active in their school day, and to show teachers that physical activity can easily be combined with teaching.

When the competition ends on May 10, the class that has skipped the most will be awarded NOK 10,000 in prize money. In addition, there are 18 county winners who can win NOK 2,000 each.
