1.9 billion more for defense

The Government will strengthen the defense sector with 1.9 billion. The money will partly go to maintenance and procurement of spare parts.

– We must have to work, says Defence Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) in a press release.

The increased budget for defense, the 1.14 billion on measures of long-term, planed for the defense in a four-year period.

529 million kroner will be used for purchase of new combat aircraft and 154 million kroner will cover additional expenses for operations abroad.

Within the defense budget 219 million kroner been re-prioritized, so that the money is used in line with the long-term plan.

The government will prioritize increased availability and endurance, says Søreide.

– Increased funding, modernization and reform paves the way for a historical but also it is absolutely necessary to focus on maintenance, procurement of spare parts and restoration of emergency stocks.
