The oil services company Aibel announced on Monday that 500 employees will lose their jobs. About half of job cuts will be in Stavanger, and the entire office in Stjørdal will be closed.

The employees at Aibel made the announcement at big meeting where both employers and employees were present,   the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad reports.
Of the 500 positions cut,  between 230 and 235 people who have to go, will be people working in the company’s office in Stavanger.  150 employees  who work in Haugesund will also lose their jobs, according to Haugaland Nytt. Aibel has downsized the department in Stjørdal over time, and on Monday it was revealed that the 40 last employees at the office will be without work from October 1, writes Trønder-Avisa.
The departments in Bergen, Kristiansund and Harstad will also be affected by the cuts.
Communications manager Bjørg Sandal said the positions being cut are connected to the company’s core competencies, ie engineers.
– But it is clear that when we are making so large cuts,  other types of positions will follow, she told the newspaper.
Aibel has 4,300 employees, and over the past two years, nearly 800 employees have lost their jobs.
