Chinese MTR is among the companies that have reported their interest in taking over the operation of the Bergen Railway.

Before Christmas,it will be clear who will run the Bergen Railway in the future. In February, the competition for the Bergensbanen and Vossebanen
started, which means that NSB will no longer have a monopoly on train operations, but must participate in tender competition with other companies.

Among the companies that have reported their interest, which have been approved by the Norwegian Railway Agency, are Chinese MTR, wrote Bergens Tidende newspaper (BT).

‘’We are looking at the possibilities and are very interested in Traffic Package 3.If we are to post a bid, it is too early to say’’ said Mark Jensen, director of MTR Nordic.

NSB, Swedish SJ and British Go-Ahead have reported their interest, according to BT. French, Keolis, is also prequalified,BT reported. They already run the Bybanen in Bergen.Norwegian Boreal has also reported its interest.

Cost will account for 40%, and quality for 60% when the state decides who is going to run the Bergen Line.According to BT,a plan to get more customers is three times as important as good customer service.
