Payments of cash benefits for children abroad have fallen by 15.1 per cent over the last year. Exports of cash to Polish nationals has fallen mostly because of lower labor in Norway.

The number of recipients of cash benefits for children residing in another EEA country decreased from 1.137 in September last year to 965 in September this year.

The number of recipients of cash in total decreased by 4.4 percent during the period, according to figures from Nav.

Two-thirds of the cash recipients abroad are Polish. Over one year, exports of cash to Polish citizens decreased from 784 to 660.

The decline in exports of cash is explained according to Nav by a tighter labor market in Norway leading to fewer EEA nationals working in here.

About 8 percent of cash beneficiaries in total are living abroad.

The cash benefit is 6,000 kroner a month and given to parents with children between one and two years who do not attend kindergarten.

The number of recipients has been between 26,000 and 28,000 since 2013, when the cash benefit was limited to apply only to one-year olds.

In June 2016 a total of 26,035 parents received money. That totaled 1,538 fewer than the same period in 2015. Meanwhile, the number of children in the cash age in Norway fell by 742.
