In August  Nav received 2,600 alerts about possible layoffs and terminations. That is about half compared with a year ago.

– After a fall and winter where we received alot of alerts each month, the number of notifications has now declined somewhat. It is positive, said Labor and Welfare Director Sigrun Vågeng.

In Rogaland, who has been the county that has experienced the largest increase in unemployment, there was notification of 429 possible layoffs and terminations in August, which is the lowest number in over two years.

– We can still get months of increase in unemployment ahead, warned Vågeng.
Only companies that are planning to terminate or lay off 10 or more employees, must notify Nav.

Although an employer alerts about possible layoffs or terminations,  it is not certain that the result is in fact layoffs or termination.

So far this year, Nav received notice of termination for 22,000 people and notice of layoff of 10,000. There are 2,400 more people than last year at the same time. Also in August, about half of the notifications from industry of mining and quarrying.
