The proportion of households that own their own home has fallen in recent years. The decline is greatest among households with deferred finances.

This shows figures from Statistics Norway.

76.8 percent of households in Norway owned their home in 2018. This is a small decrease from 2015, when 77.5 percent own their home.

Among households with the lowest income, 48 percent owned housing in 2018, a decrease of 1.7 percentage points from 2015.

In 2018, 93 percent owned their homes among households with the highest income. This is a marginal upturn.

In almost all municipalities, over 90 percent of households with high income own housing. Among the households with the lowest income, the proportion varies from 25 to over 70 percent in the various municipalities.

Many of the municipalities with low shareholdings among low-income households are, however, student municipalities, such as Ås, Tromsø, Lillehammer and Trondheim.
