Last year was a financial success for Huawei, despite political turbulence.
In Norway, the company doubled its profits in 2018.
Huawei Norway had a turnover of NOK 1.38 billion and ended with a profit before tax of NOK 66 million, wrote Dagens Næringsliv newspaper. The profits were more than twice as large as the year before, when Huawei was left with NOK 31 million after trading for NOK 1.11 billion.

‘’The operator and consumer markets had been the biggest drivers of sales in 2018. The development of the telephone side had been particularly positive and thus made a greater impact than before’’ said communications manager, Erik Thomas Ganer, of Huawei Norway.
The company have been in Norway for ten years, but had primarily operated with infrastructure, not telephones. Last year, however, they invested heavily in the marketing of the phones P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro.
Met with skepticism
The Chinese IT and telegigant also improved results at group level and recently reported a 25% higher profit.
The figures come after a year where Huawei has fought in political and legal headwinds in several countries.
In December, the company’s CFO, who is also the daughter of Huawei’s founder, was arrested in Canada and risked extradition to the United States of America.
In addition, a number of countries are concerned about espionage and possible links between the company and Chinese authorities. Some countries therefore prohibit Huawei from developing important infrastructure.
Norway is considering the question of whether Huawei should be involved in the development of the next generation of mobile networks, and PST has asked the authorities to keep an eye on the Chinese mobile giant.
