Sales of organic foods in grocery stores have increased by nearly 22 percent in the first half of 2016,  a report from the Agriculture Directorate  shows.

Sales of organic agricultural products had a turnover of 1.17 billion and the equivalent to 21.9 percent increase in the first half of the year, the report shows.

The increase is both due to the higher prices of organic products and an increased quantity being sold.

– Vegetables, dairy products and baby foods  are the products which have got the highest turnover. The production of organic potatoes, vegetables and fruit has also increased, while there has been a decline of grain production,  Mona Nedberg Østby in the Agriculture Directorate says to the newspaper Nationen.
