Many professional drivers nod off behind the wheel

One out of four bus or truck driver have fallen asleep or dozed off behind the wheel in the last three months.According to the local newspaper Dagsavisen.
The newspaper refers to a survey from the Institute of Transport Economics which also reveals that three out of ten of those  on the bridge of boats and ships,  half of the conductors of passenger trains, and six out of ten conductors of freight trains say they have fallen asleep or nodded off at work.
– Fatigue and exhaustion among professional drivers and other professional transport operators contribute to a significant proportion of accidents and critical incidents, researcher leader Ross Owen Phillips at Institute of Transport Economic saids.
Long working hours are an important part of the explanation. Truck drivers on average work 10.6 hours a day.
