The Norwegian Public Roads Administration registered 10,315 electric cars in March, and for the first time more than half of the newly registered cars in this country were an electric car.

The number of registered electric cars in March gives the electric car trade of 57 percent, according to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

There were 38,157 passenger cars registered in the first quarter, of which 18,226 are electric passenger cars.

“These are historical figures. When it first was figured, it has grown so fast,” says road director Terje Moe Gustavsen as a comment to the March figures.

Gustavsen further states that it is no more than five years since clear targets were set for the electric car policy, where one had just passed 10,000 electric cars.

The transport sector is associated with climate emissions, where electric cars are an important contribution to reducing emissions. Climate emissions from the transport sector for the first time pointed down in 2017, where there was a decrease from 9.7 to 8.8 million tonnes from road traffic.

Emissions will be reduced by 40 percent within eleven years, and then electric cars and the involvement of biofuels are important contributions, according to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

“Our forecast is that we will have 1.5 million electric cars on Norwegian roads by 2030,” says Gustavsen.
