A new telescope the size of the Colosseum in Rome is to be moved from Europe to Chile.

The Norwegian logistics department of the Danish firm Ramboll is among those chosen for the mission.

European Extremely Large Telescope is scheduled to be completed in 2024 and will with a dome of over a hundred meters in diameter and a primary mirror at 39 meters, be the world’s largest telescope construction.

The strategic planning of the move, which includes moving 798 delicate hexagonal mirrors, will be modeled by the  the firm’s two Norwegian logistics experts Terje Norddal and Håvard Gaustad Harbo .

The telescope will be built on the mountain Armazones in the Atacama Desert north of Chile. The peak is 3,000 meters high.
The telescope has a budget of well over 8 billion, and built on behalf of the astronomy organization European Southern Observatory, an organization in which Norway is not a member.
