14,419 farmers applied for compensation for crop failure when the deadline expired on Wednesday night. It is far more than the Ministry of Agriculture’s forecast.

Nationen newspaper wrote that last year, 890 applications were compiled.

Most applications from farmers in Oppland, Østfold and Akershus have been received reported the Agriculture Directorate on Thursday.

‘’The application number ended slightly over the forecast of 12,000 applications.

This confirms the major damage the drought had caused’’ said section chief,Gunn Eide of the Agriculture Directorate.

269 million compensation kroner have already been paid. Applications are processed in two stages, in municipalities and counties. The goal is for as many manufacturers as possible to get their compensation settlement before the turn of the year.

Eide said that they have received a strong incentive from the Minister for Agriculture to treat as many cases as possible before Christmas.
