Fisheries Minister Per Sandberg says normalization of relations with China is fantastic for the Norwegian seafood industry.

The Fisheries Minister thinks China is a significant market for Norway.

“Today I am a happy salmon. This is fantastic news for Norwegian seafood industry. China has the potential to become a significant market for Norwegian seafood.”

“Hopefully, Norwegian companies can now take part in the development of the Chinese seafood market, where there is a tremendous demand,” he says.

Norway has not had political contact with China since 2010, when the Nobel Peace Prize went to jailed dissident Liu Xiaobo, which China said was an undue interference in internal affairs.

Norwegian Minister Monica Mæland says she is pleased that Norway has returned to normal political and diplomatic relations with China.

“Now I look forward to resuming negotiations for a free trade agreement with China as soon as practical. This will be high priority issue that I will work actively towards the future,” she says.
