The private group Rygge Airport AS are planning to continue operations at threatened Moss Airport Rygge. Up to 1,000 jobs could be salvaged.
– The aim is to put in place all agreements with the authorities as soon as possible, so that aircrafts can take off and land at Rygge also after 29 October, says Chairman Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen in the newly established company Rygge Airport AS.
Thus Moss Airport Rygge could be saved if the company succeeds with plans to continue operations. The new Investor Group does not share the current owners’ view that it is not possible to operate the airport when Ryanair withdraws.
1,000 jobs under threat
– The airport is one of the finest and most modern. 1.6 million passengers are benefiting from flights from Rygge today. Over 1,000 jobs are threatened by a potential closure. There will be a significant loss for the community if such a great and well-run airport is discontinued where it is invested such large amounts, says CEO Knut R. Johannessen in the new company.
The Company believes there is market for continuing airport operations. The objective is to match the same traffic volumes and routes as today.
– In the long term we want to develop new market segments and destinations, says Johannessen.
