Cars with a lot of horsepower will be even cheaper, if the bourgeois parties can come to an agreement.
This year the purchase tax for new cars was changed. The so-called power component which refers to horsepower was reduced by 50 percent, while the rates for NOX and CO2 emissions have gone up. This has made cars with high horsepower and low emissions cheaper.
The ambition of the Conservative Party, Progress Party, Liberal Party and Christian Democratic Party is to remove horsepower as a part of the conditions for calculating  in a period of two years and to make emissions more expensive.
– Engine power does not cause pollition. It’s the emissions that cause pollution. And that’s why we have the managed to get to an agreement between the four parties that I am very pleased that we have put in place and that we will phase out ahead, Minister of Finance Siv Jensen told TV 2.
Before she can promise that tax on horsepower disappear altogether she also needs to get Venstre on her side. They believe  fuel taxes  ought to be increased in order to reduce emissions from transport.  The Progress leader will not say whether she is willing to live with more expensive fuel.
– We will have negotiations on this and we will get back to it when we’re done with the discussions,  Jensen says.
