Statoil entered the highest bid when the U.S.A. sold licenses for wind power off the coast of New York.
The license cost in excess of $42 million, about NOK360 million. It is Statoil’s first sea wind license in the U.S.A., the company said.

Now Statoil will assess whether they will roll out an offshore wind farm. They will study the seabed, network connectivity and the wind in the license area setting.

‘This is in line with our strategy to gradually supplement oil and gas in our portfolio of profitable, renewable energy and other low-carbon solutions’, said Irene Rummelhoff, executive vice president for new energy solutions.

New York proposes that wind power will play a significant part in the transformation that will be required to meet the State’s goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030.
