Telenor and Malaysian Axiata are discussing the merger of their mobile and infrastructure companies in Asia. This would make them one of Asia’s largest telecom companies.
This was announced by Telenor on Monday.
The company will become Malaysia’s largest telecom company and one of the largest in Asia. It will also be one of the world’s largest infrastructure companies with 60,000 towers.
‘’This is a large company with almost 300 million customers and a turnover of almost 13 billion dollars (about 113 billion kroner). It will be about the same size as Telenor is today’’ said CEO, Sigve Brekke of Telenor to NTB news.
The new company will thus be two-thirds of Telenor’s size. The goal is that the potential agreement with Axiata will be signed by the third quarter of 2019. Subsequently, a number of approvals must be in place, which could take several months.
