Telia Norge is cutting 240 man-years in connection with its cost cutting program. This means around 10 per cent of the workforce, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

The employees were informed of the process at a general meeting on Tuesday.

“The people who are permanently employed will be called in for talks over the next couple of days and offered a final settlement,” says CEO Abraham Foss of Telia Norway to the newspaper.

The downsizing will take place by planned new recruitment that will not be carried out, and recently employed staff not being replaced. In addition, hired consultants will be discontinued. The sizes of the final agreements will vary depending on, among other things, seniority and age.

Telia will not go out with details about how many people are offered final settlements, but say the three mentioned categories are in excess of the number of final agreements they want to enter.

Telia bought ‘Get’ last year for NOK 21 billion, one of the most expensive acquisitions in Norway. The telecommunications company is now the second largest player in the telecommunications market with more than 1.6 million customers.
