Norwegian companies lack nearly 60,000 people in labor positions. This is an increase of 15,000 in one year, according to a NAV’s company survey.
The biggest shortage is the building and construction industry, where 14,300 people are missing. That’s 6,400 more than last year. Here, there is a particularly large shortage of all round handy men, carpenters, electricians and plumbers.
The health and care sector lacks people to about 12,750 positions. That’s 950 more positions than a year back.
Nurses are a simple requirement, regardless of industry, there is the greatest lack of in Norway. Nav estimates that there are now 4,500 nurses and 1,100 special nurses missing.
Within engineering and ICT subjects, 6,500 workers are missing.
Overall, one in four companies expect to increase staffing in the coming year. 11 percent expect a reduction, while 64 percent do not expect a change.
One in five companies has had recruitment problems in the last three months. This is an increase from last year. Oslo and Vest-Viken have the highest proportion of companies with recruitment problems, while it is lowest in Agder and Trøndelag.
A total of 36 percent of the companies within health and social sectors have not been able to hire by the competence they sought for in the last three months.
All counties expect employment growth in 2019, but there are geographical differences.
The companies in Nordland and Vestfold and Telemark are most optimistic, while the companies in western and inland areas are relatively less optimistic.
