On Wednesday, the train drivers strike developed further, after the parties came to no agreement on Tuesday night. Passengers must continue to live with canceled trains, full buses and long tail-backs on roads.

After 16 hours of talks on Tuesday and Wednesday night, the striking parties were unable to reach a solution. Wednesday sees the four-week long strike stepped up even further.

‘Unfortunately, there was no solution’, said head Rolf Ringdal of the Norsk Lokomotivmannsforbund (NLF-Train Workers Union) NTB just after at 4am on Wednesday (after the parties had sat together since 12 o’clock on Tuesday morning).

This means thousands of commuters in eastern regions, and from Wednesday also at Sørlandsbanen, will still have to stand in long queues and find alternative means to get to work.

The conflict escalated with six new train drivers on strike in Sørlandsbanen from Wednesday. The line is in Kristiansand so as not to increase pressure in the eastern area further. Altogether, 124 train drivers are on strike.

A mandatory mediation has been drafted in for this Thursday.
