Travel time is working time

The Supreme Court stated that public employees who have been travelling at their employer’s disposal should count the journey as working hours.

The verdict is relevant to several hundred thousand workers in Norway.Today, travel time is normally considered free time, and you will not be entitled to pay or retirement benefits from it unless agreed with the employer.

The starting point for the assessment is the case of a Norwegian police officer usually stationed at Gaular Länsmannskontor in Sogn and Fjordane. On several occasions he was sent on assignments elsewhere in the region, yet travel time was not approved as working time.
