Some had spent the night queueing; enormous American football players were in place to keep a semblance of order in the crush when the doors opened to frenzied mobs of shopaholic customers rushing toward Black Friday deals as early as six o’clock this morning.

A number of shopping centers around the country opened extra early on Friday morning.

In ‘Norwegian Outlet’ in Akershus, a tsunami of people surged in when the doors opened before dawn (06.00).

CEO, Einar Sørland, told Aftenposten that the center expects sales during the day to be as high as they are for a whole month normally.

Black Friday has, in just a few years, established itself as the busiest single trading day of the year. Last year, sales were estimated at 1.5 billion, an increase of 50% on the year before.

Originally an American phenomenon, Black Friday has become a great trading day in actual stores, while the following Monday, ‘Cyber Monday’, has developed into the online stores’ biggest mover.

‘In Norway, however, it seems that they meld together’, said director, Bror William Stende, for active dealership.

The electric goods chain-store, Elkjøp, reported that they had 125,000 shopping on their online store during just the first five hours of Friday.
