Around 12,600 unemployed people have lost their right to unemployment benefits during the year because they have been without a job for more than two years.
– We want to know more about this group, says Labour and Social Affairs Anniken Hauglie to news agency NTB.
A working group in NAV was appointed before the summer to identify the long-term unemployed and find out more about what they do when the maximum limit of two years of unemployment benefits expires. The work will be completed during the autumn.
– The purpose is to find out who they are, what kind of needs they have and what they need help to get a job, she says.
The government estimates that somewhere between 1,000 and 1,200 more will reach the maximum for unemployment benefits this year compared with last year.
Social assistance is a last resort for long-term unemployed who have lost their right to unemployment benefit and cannot support themselves.
