Every nine minutes an instance of damage by water is uncovered in apartments, houses and cottages in Norway, according to the water damage statistics of Finans Norge .
The first three months of this year insurers reported roughly 15,000 instances of water damage and paying 620 million in total in compensation. And the instances of water damage have increased sharply in recent years.
– People are now more likely to experience water damage than both burglary and fire put together, communications manager Stine Neverdal in Finans Norge says.
There are now 6 percent more incidents of water damage than in the same period last year. The compensation payments are increasing by a 15 percent.
Most forms of water damage are caused by different forms of pipe rupture inside the residence. Last winter there was a significant increase in incidents of water damage caused by frost. There hasn’t been so many instances of damages caused by frost since the cold winters in 2010 and 2011.
The frequency of heavy precipitation has increased over most land areas and climate change will lead to greater local rainfalls in several places in Norway and in the rest of the world for years to come.
