Google and Facebook are capturing an increasing part of the Norwegian advertising market. This year, companies’ sales will surpass at least 4 billion kroner.

– I can not say anything about sales figures, but I can say that we experience our greatest growth ever in the search industry, said Jan Grønbech, Google’s chief in Norway, to Dagens Næringsliv.
Figures from media agency groupings shows that Google had a turnover of around 2.3 billion in Norway last year, while Facebook raised about 1 billion, according to the newspaper.
Negotiation Director Jarle Thalberg in Group M said their forecasts show that the companies would turn over at least 4 billion in Norway in 2016.
– Facebook alone can come to grow by 50 percent in Norway this year. Facebook will probably end up with a turn-over in advertising sales of 1.5 billion. The growth we are seeing is quite extreme. Google is the biggest player, but Facebook is growing the fastest, says Thalberg.
Google CEO Grønbech says advertising on search engines in Norway has increased by about 40 percent so far this year, compared with the same period last year. He thinks the big growth in 2016 is due to advertisers starting to demand more return on their advertising investments.
– Norway has over the past ten years has been lagging behind the rest of Europe because advertisers have followed their old, dusty plans from the 1990’s. Now advertisers have started to think about what they actually do, he says.
