Saturday is the deadline for submitting your tax return. Amongst those not checking it is a large proportion of young people. The older people are, the better they think they are at tax matters.

According to a new survey from Ipsos MMI, conductedby DNB, most people over age 60 say that they check that the information in the pre-completed tax return is correct. It is also mostly Seniors who say they receive the deductions they are entitled to and that they understand the basis for the tax calculations.
– I’m not surprised that the elders know best, says consumer economist Silje Sandmæl in DNB .
All of 97 percent of those over 60 said they check their pre-completed tax return, whilst only 81 percent of those between 18 and 29 responded the same. Amongst the older generation 93 percent said they understand why they get a tax demand or tax refund, whilst 73 percent of the youngest group responded the same.

Last year there were still 426,000 employees and pensioners who did not check the pre-completed information in their tax returns. The deadline is 30 April.
