1166 have had their driver’s licenses suspended for speeding this summer

During June and July, the police have confiscated the driver’s licenses of 1166 persons as a result of them speeding.

According to VG, the Mobile Police (UP) registered 14,584 cases of speed offenses during the two summer months, not including the instances caught on the automatic cameras. This figure represents an increase of five percent from last year.

1,166 drivers had their driver’s licenses confiscated during this period of time, an increase of four percent.
In connection with the start of a new school year  the police additional runs checks near schools.

– We prioritize areas near schools and are often out on country roads in connection with the start of school. And there are a great deal of speed offenses and illegal use of mobile phone.

In Western Norway we stopped one intoxicated driver who was to fetch a child in school. But the general impression has been good,  UP chief Runar Karlsen says on the controls around the school.

33 percent more have been caught driving under the influence in June and July this year than in the same period last year. UP explains this with  the new saliva samples providing them with better methods of detecting people driving under the influence .
380 people were caught driving under the influnce during this period of time.
