A now 17 year old boy has been sentenced to youth penalty for several incidents of abuse of a girl under 10 years of age.

Normally,  a person will be sentenced to  two and a half years in prison, but partly because of the boy’s difficult childhood and immaturity  Tønsberg District Court him sentenced him to the youth penalty, for two and a half years, according to the newspaper Tønsberg Blad.
The boy was 15 and 16 when the incidents of abuse occurred, and the victim was just under nine years.
Youth Penalties were introduced in 2014 and is an alternative sanction to imprisonment. This kind of sentence is meant to prevent relapse and help young offenders into a new life path.
The penalty can be given to young people under 18 who have committed serious crimes and is to comprise a “restorative judicial process” that includes offender network, victims and relief services – and with the penalty  tailored to the individual.
The boy is also ordered to pay 100,000 kroner in compensation to the girl.
