The church’s SOS help line has answered 23,300 inquiries on phone, chat and SOS messages this summer. Loneliness, relationship challenges and psychological problems are the usual issues.

This counts for over 500 conversations a day, says SOS, Norway’s largest 24-hour emergency service on the phone and internet, in a press release.

“I am proud and grateful that our 1,000 committed volunteers stand by day and night so we can provide a 24-hour service for anyone who needs someone to talk or chat with – even this summer,” says Secretary General Leif Jarle Theis from Church SOS.

For some of the callers, the conversation is the only human contact they have during the holiday season, he states.

Every year, the crisis service answers 200,000 calls.
