Figures from the Police Immigration Unit show that as of July 18, at least 6,000 persons were illegally resident in Norway.

In addition to these figures, there are also persons with illegal residence for which each police district is responsible, reported Nettavisen newspaper.

“The reason for the expulsion of persons who have had long-term illegal residence in Norway is concerned with return conditions in different countries.Retirement assumptions are constantly changing, and there are many individual, complex reasons for expelling people living here,’’ the Police Immigration Unit (PU) wrote in an email about the matter.

The government has planned to expel 7,500 people in 2018. PU chief,Morten Ervik, said that it most likely will not to happen.

“After the first tier there are many indications that we will not achieve this goal, but we are working to get as close to the target as we can,” said Ervik to VG newspaper in June.

Half-yearly figures from the PU show that a total of 2,488 people with illegal residence have been expelled, which is 13% lower than at the same time last year.
